Gluten Free Play Dough



Here is a great recipe for home-made play dough.  If you are looking to purchase gluten-free play dough, click here.

1/2 cup rice flour
1/2 cup corn starch or arrow root starch
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon cooking oil
Food coloring, if desired
Flavor extract, if desired (such as lemon, orange or almond)

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook and stir on low heat for 3-5 minutes or until it comes together (it will look slightly dry at this point).  Using a rubber heat-resistant spatula, scrape the bottom of the pan and continue to flip the dough so it doesn’t burn while heating.

Remove the dough from the pan and place it on waxed paper until cool.

Once cooled, knead until the dough is soft and the consistency of “regular” play dough.  Store in plastic tubs or bags.
